Overview

The Public Rehoming & Urgent Intake Program allows FosterDoc Houston Dog Rescue to provide immediate care and shelter to dogs whose owners can no longer care for them, or who are in urgent need of rescue. Through a one-time sponsorship donation of $400 (plus an additional $150 if unaltered), we’re able to cover the initial costs of care — including vetting, vaccinations, microchipping, food, and daily needs — while ensuring that each dog receives the quality care and love they deserve until adoption.

This program provides a compassionate, sustainable solution for both the rescue and responsible dog owners facing difficult circumstances. Intake is not guaranteed and depends on available space and resources.

Our Mission & Why This Program Matters

At FosterDoc Houston, we understand that life can bring unexpected changes, and sometimes owners need help finding a safe, loving place for their pets. This program allows us to respond quickly to urgent rescue requests while maintaining high standards of care.

By offering structured intake through a set sponsorship donation, we can sustainably cover the basic costs of each dog’s care and continue expanding our mission — saving more lives, supporting our community, and securing a stable future for our rescue.

Eligibility Criteria

To ensure safety, quality of care, and the best possible outcomes for each dog, eligibility is determined based on the following guidelines:

1. Heartworm Negative: Dogs must test negative for heartworms. Dogs who have completed treatment may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

2. Medical Records: Complete medical history must be provided before intake. Intake may be declined if records are incomplete or falsified.

3. No Major Medical Conditions: We are unable to accept dogs requiring extensive or long-term medical treatment.

4. Non-Aggressive Behavior: Dogs must have no history of aggression toward humans or other dogs.

5. Behavior Assessment: All dogs will undergo a basic assessment to ensure they can be safely handled by our team and volunteers.

6. Size Considerations: For safety reasons, dogs exceeding 100lbs may be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
